Verbs in spanish are not easy for norwegians because there are lots of forms and conjugations. There are three different conjugations, -ar , -er , -ir.
For example: saltar , comer , subir.
So verbs have different conjugations depending on the group they belong to.Every verb has a root which (in the regular forms) will not change. The root is the infinitiv without the "-ar" , "-er" or "-ir" part.
saltar = salt + ar comer = com + er subir = sub + ir
infinitive = root + ar infinitive = root + er infinitive = root + ir
The participle is build using the root and adding "ado" (in the ar-conjugation) and "ido" (in the er-conjugation and the ir-conjugation).
saltado , comido , subido
The gerund is build using the root and adding "ando" (in the ar-conjugation) and "iendo" (in the er-conjugation and the ir-conjugation).
saltando , comiendo , subiendo
The ar-conjugation is also known as "first-conjugation", the er-conjugation as "second-conjugation" and the ir-conjugation as "third-conjugation".Now a complete example for a regular verb for each conjugation form. The composite forms are build using "haber + participle". Haber must be conjugated in the right time form, that is in "presente" or "pret. imperfecto" or "pret.perf. simple" or "futuro" or "condicional".

So you see how important is to know the timeforms of the verb "haber". I think now will be easier to understand the table below. The table is the same for all three conjugations, only the content changes.
There is no rule to say wether a verb is regular or not.
